Car software tuning is usually intended for improving performance.
But there’s another type of improvement we’d like to discuss today, and it’s called Eco Tuning.
The concept that behind Eco Tuning is the same as that which underpins performance tuning. Get the most out of an engine that runs on regular gas and has common parts.
Unlike the performance component of software tuning, Eco tuners concentrate on increasing torque and lowering fuel consumption, allowing you to save money on petrol while also having a more torquey engine.
As you may recall from a previous post, a minor increase in torque results in a modest increase in horsepower.
How does Eco Tuning work?
Eco Tuning, like “classical” tuning, is frequently done using a vehicle’s OBD II connection. The vehicle’s Engine Control Unit (ECU) will be “read” by the engineer who is working on it, and its parameters will be analyzed.

Instead of hypermiling, the Eco tuning would improve customers’ fuel economy without requiring them to adjust their driving style significantly. The latter may not require any alterations, as the greater torque provided by the Eco tuning technique would reduce the need for the user to increase engine revs, as the ECU tuning would improve throttle response.
Eco tuners claim a 10 to 20% increase in fuel economy on average. This is dependent on the vehicle’s engine and how well it has been tuned by the manufacturer. Whatever option you choose, keep in mind that your mileage may vary depending on your driving style. Even with the greatest Eco settings, if you consistently press hard on the gas pedal, you will not see an improvement in fuel economy.
What are the risks of Eco Tuning?
To begin with, any unlawful alteration to your vehicle will void the manufacturer’s warranty.
Second, if the consumer does not go to a certified tuner with years of experience and a long list of recommendations, the technician may not program the optimal injection and ignition map for their vehicle.
If the technician makes a mistake, the automobile may require a new ECU or other costly components. What we’re trying to communicate is that you should avoid going to anyone who advertises chip tuning services on the internet. They may not cause immediate damage to your car, but they may make changes to certain settings without fully understanding the consequences, resulting in a power plant malfunction.
What factors should I consider while choosing someone to Eco tune my car?
To begin, look for references. A Facebook page and a shoddy-looking website are insufficient credentials to make you trust someone to operate on your car’s electronics. This isn’t rocket science, as we’ve noted before with automobile coding, but software tuning is more than just modifying some code variables.
To the detriment of a novice in the world of car tuning, it is advisable to go with a more expensive and well-known business. After all, you’re putting your hard-earned cash (trapped in a car) into the hands of someone who uses price dumping to gain experience and clients. If you want to be safe, that is not a good idea.
The second piece of advice we have for you on this topic is to stay away from any inexpensive, plug-and-play solutions. Particularly ubiquitous fuel efficiency and power improvement “chips” available on eBay, AliExpress, and other similar websites.
None of them should be used since they may harm your vehicle’s electronics. In the best-case scenario, they serve no use other than to waste your money. In most situations, however, these systems have an impact on emission control devices, fuel injection, or other engine components.
